Fulfilling charitable goals
The Foundation helps donors make their philanthropic visions a reality, aligning their charitable goals with University aspirations. To facilitate this partnership, Foundation staff offer donors a broad range of mutually beneficial giving opportunities, and stewards and recognizes donors for their generosity. Foundation staff work with donors on:

Multiple-year pledges: Payments on major gift pledges can be made for up to five years.

Future gifts: Whether through income-producing gifts such as annuities and trusts, or through future gifts such as bequests, several options exist for donors wishing to leave a philanthropic legacy at the University.

Identifying gift assets: Many assets can make gifts that will have a lasting impact. One resource being used more often is real estate and new processes are in place for working with donors on these gifts.

Stewardship: The Foundation ensures that gifts are used as donors intend. In fiscal year 2007, more than 3,600 donors received personalized reports on the use and impact of their gifts.

Donor recognition: The Foundation oversees the University of Minnesota Presidents Club, which recognizes donors who have made lifetime gifts of $25,000 or more to the U. As of June 30, there were 12,321 members.

Identifying new revenue sources
The University of Minnesota Foundation works with the University to identify significant new revenue opportunities to finance its mission. Two areas that hold exceptional possibility include:

Real estate: The Foundation is working with the University on plans to transform its 5,000-acre site in Rosemount (UMore Park) into a vibrant new community. The Foundation is also assisting with real estate strategies to revitalize University neighborhoods.

Intellectual property commercialization: The Foundation has been integral to launching the University Enterprise Laboratories, the Office of Technology Commercialization, and the University Venture Center to generate new businesses and grow new revenue streams from University discoveries.
