Letter from the president "Be the future".
People often ask, “What does the future hold?” But at the University of Minnesota, we wonder, “How can we be a leader in what’s to come?” It’s a reflection of our unwavering drive to discover, which we share with you, our visionary donors.

As a donor, you are continually shaping the future. For an underprivileged student, scholarship support can mean a future filled with possibilities. For those living with illness, research funding can lead to a healthier tomorrow. And for our great University, your gifts fuel our transformation as a top research institution with a deep and abiding commitment to excellence.

Students offer a glimpse into the future. Their talent and passion will take us further into this new century. This year’s freshman class is once again among the best prepared and most promising in the University’s history. And a thoughtful redesign of the undergraduate experience will better equip our graduates to assume positions of leadership in the community, state, nation, and world.

Today’s complex issues – such as climate change, the threat of pandemic flu, and the need for alternative energy – must be addressed from all sides. Interdisciplinary approaches are becoming the norm as our academic culture evolves. With a broad spectrum of colleges, schools, and departments filled with exceptional scholars, the U is well positioned to collaborate on solutions.

While we can’t say what lies ahead, we know we will be a distinctive, innovative, and engaged University community that’s sure to shape our world in significant ways. Together, we can be the future. Thank you for your support.
