Corporate and Foundation Relations
Providing Assistance in Requesting Corporate and Foundation Funding

Faculty and staff members who would like to request philanthropic funding from a corporation or foundation should talk to your development office before making any contact with a potential funder.

Major corporations and foundations are tied to multiple units or to institutional priorities. Upon learning of your project from your development office, the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations with review the relationship with that organization and make the contact. (Many such organizations have requested one-door to the University.) We will help strategize for your proposal's funding.

Submission of your proposal will be made relative to projects already submitted and the University's strategy for that corporation or foundation.

Development officers will know if the organization you wish to contact is on a list of major corporations and foundations tracked by the Corporate & Foundation Relations staff at the Foundation. These typically are tied to multiple units or to institutional priorities. All contacts with organizations on this list must be made through Corporate & Foundation Relations.

The Corporate and Foundation Relations staff:

  • Coordinates multi-unit requests to corporations and foundations;
  • Raises support from organizations for institutional priorities.

The Corporate and Foundation Relations staff can be reached by phone at
612-624-4159, or 800-775-2187 or by email at cfr@umn.edu.
