Million to Support U's Digital
Technology Center
MINNEAPOLIS / ST. PAUL--The
University of Minnesota has
received a gift of $7 million
from The ADC Foundation and
ADC has signed an agreement
to potentially fund up to
$3 million in university research
projects that are directed
toward strengthening the critical
field of digital technology.
The ADC Foundation's $7 million
gift will be used to endow
five faculty positions and
eight graduate fellowships
in the Digital Technology
Center, which was established
in 1998 as part of the university's
digital technology initiative.
In addition, up to $3 million
from ADC will support research
projects primarily in the
area of telecommunications
and advanced networking technologies
at the Digital Technology
Center. One of the chairs
to be created by the Foundation
gift is that of the Director
of the Digital Technology
Center. Two other chairs will
be in the field of wireless
telecommunications and the
remaining two in advanced
network technologies.
The eight fellowships will
go to graduate students studying
and conducting research in
telecommunications and advanced
networking. The university
will provide matching funds
for the fellowships.
