Online Privacy
Protection Statement
The University of Minnesota Foundation
was established in 1962 as a private,
non-profit corporation to increase the
private support of the University of Minnesota.
The University of Minnesota Foundation
is committed to building positive, high-trust
relationships with its donors and prospective
donors; providing performance excellence;
and operating with the highest ethical
standards.
The Foundation has a duty to protect the
confidentiality of private, non-public
donor information. Respect for a donor's
right to privacy is a basic standard of
integrity for all Foundation activities.
To reach alumni and friends of the University,
the Foundation manages the Web site www.giving.umn.edu.
The Foundation tracks Web usage and non-personally
identifiable information to evaluate how
well the Web site is reaching visitors.
The Foundation does not sell or distribute
any donor contact information to individuals
or organizations outside the University
of Minnesota.
The following Q & A addresses specific
issues associated with the Foundation's
online privacy practices.
Q. What information does the
Foundation gather by tracking the use
of its Web site?
If you visit our Web site and do not voluntarily
enter your contact information, the Foundation
does not track personal information about
you such as your name and e-mail address.
If you volunteer to provide information
about yourself to make an online gift
or change your address, the Foundation
will securely record that information
for internal administrative purposes only.
We do track how many visits our site receives,
the average time users spend per page,
and other general, non-personally identifiable
information about how visitors are using
the site.
Q. If I voluntarily
update my University of Minnesota Foundation
contact information online, or make a
gift to the U online, how will the Foundation
use that information?
The Foundation Web sites have two locations
where visitors can voluntarily enter their
contact information.
1. The "Update
Your Contact Information" is where you can update your
mailing address, phone number, and e-mail address so that
the University of Minnesota and
the Foundation can stay in contact with you.
2. The "Make
an Online Gift" section is where you can designate a credit
card gift to the University of Minnesota. The Foundation enters
the information you provide - excluding your credit card number
- into our secure donor database so that we have your gift
history or change of address record.
Q. Is it safe to
make a gift online?
Yes. The "Make
an Online Gift" page is a secure page that encrypts your
private information. We do not collect credit card account information. Instead, that portion of the transaction is conducted on secure servers at US Bank, our partner in secure online gift processing.
Q. Does the University
of Minnesota Foundation share or sell
the information it gathers?
No. To respect your privacy, the Foundation
does not distribute or sell any donor
contact information to outside sources.
