Puckett Scholars

Eudora SawyerrEudora Sawyerr

Role models. That's the best way to describe Kirby and Tonya Puckett according to current Puckett Scholar Eudora Sawyerr.

"They are not simply benefactors giving money for school to poor minority students. And they are not just good people," says the freshman interior design major. "They have earned a reputation as people who give everything—their money, their time, their concern, themselves—to helping others."

More than a scholarship, Sawyerr calls the award "an incentive" to strive for greatness: "Every time I start to think ‘take it easy, you don't have to try so hard,' I check myself. I do have to try hard. I owe it to the men and women who believed in me to get me this far. I owe it to my mother and father; I owe it to my teachers; I owe it to Kirby."
